Go to User-Portal to activate your JMU Card for use as a library card.
As an academic, you automatically receive special lending conditions.
Lecturers without a JMU Card can also apply for these special lending conditions.
... at the University Hospital
As an academic, you can request special lending conditions.
We issue a library card for university employees to other employees of the University Hospital. Please come to the information of the Main Library and bring your valid identity card and your valid proof of employment (Service hours are Mon–Thu 8:30–16:00, Fri 8:30–13:00 ).
... at other universities
If you are resident in Germany, you can request a library card via our online form for people in the city and region.
If you are visiting the University for a short time (a few weeks), we recommend that you use the group account for the Chair that invited you.
If you are staying for longer, for example for the whole semester, you can request a card with special lending conditions via the Chair.

You must be at least 14 years old and have a permanent residence in Germany to request a library card. Additional conditions apply for minors.
Please submit your application via our online registration form. For processing your application and issuing your library card, a fee of €8.00 applies, which must be paid at the time of application.
It is not possible to apply in person at the Würzburg University Library with immediate issuance of a library card.
Collecting your card
We will notify you by email when you can collect your card. Please come in person to the Information Desk of the Main Library. You can pay the deposit of 7.00 € either in cash or with your debit card (EC card).
Our service hours for collection:
- Mon to Fri 08:30–18:00, Sat 09:00–16:30.
You will receive your library card on presentation of your valid identity card (or your passport + proof of residence, e.g. a recent registration certificate or your residence permit).
Information for school classes and visitor groups:
For organisational reasons, we can only issue pre-ordered library cards to individuals and not to larger groups, such as visitors to our courses or training events. In such cases, please collect your library card later during the above-mentioned service times, e.g. on the day you first borrow media from the University Library.

ub-ausleihe@uni-wuerzburg.de). Upon request, we can issue a replacement card during the service hours of the circulation desk (Mon to Thu 08:30–16:00, Fri 08:30–13:00). This must be paid in cash (replacement fee: €10.00, cost of a new card: €8.00).
Card no longer needed?
If you no longer wish to use our services, you can return your library card to us (Mon-Thu 9:00-16:00, Fri 9:00-13:00). If you ordered your library card before 21 May 2026 and paid a deposit for it, you will receive a refund upon returning the card undamaged. Please note that we can only pay out the deposit amount to yourself or an authorized person.
Please note: Only the Studierendenwerk Würzburg can pay out any remaining money on your card. This is only possible before you return the card to us.
Address up to date?
If you move house, please let us know your new address.
If you need to change your e-mail address, go to "User details" in your library account.
Account & user data
Your user account shows all the items you currently have on loan (with the loan period) and your requests and reservations.
You can enter your e-mail address under "User details". This will enable us to send reminders when your loans come to an end and notify you when items become available.
If you order articles and copies via interlibrary loan you will receive the delivery via a download link to your e-mail address on file with us.
