The striking building of the Main Library at Hubland was designed by the Munich architect Alexander von Branca. The cornerstone stone was laid in 1974 and the new library building was ready for occupation on 15 July 1981. The Main Library on Hubland, together with the departmental libraries spread throughout the city, forms the library system of the University Library of Würzburg.
