Modules for Information and Digital Literacy
Please note: The course is conducted in German.
Do you still need two, three, or five ECTS credits? For example within the ASQ pool or the "Free Electives Area" ("Freicher Bereich")?
Our course provides the key competencies required for successful academic work. In modular learning units, you will acquire practical knowledge on how to search for, evaluate, use, and further process scholarly information – from fundamental research skills to AI-supported tools.
Course Content
Block 1 – Identifying and Searching for Scholarly Information
Fundamentals of academic work, orientation within the library, and searching in catalogues and search engines.
Block 2 – Subject-Specific Literature Research
Efficient search strategies in the databases relevant to your academic discipline.
Block 3 – Citing, Copyright & Reference Management
How to cite correctly, avoid plagiarism, and work with reference management software such as Citavi, EndNote, or Zotero.
Block 4 – Artificial Intelligence in an Academic Context
A critical and informed approach to AI tools and their practical application in literature research.
Block 5 – Data Management & Digital Work Environment
Fundamentals of data security, data organisation, and building a structured digital study environment.
All materials are fully available to participants, regardless of how many blocks you choose to complete for your module.
Module Options
The course is offered in three formats:
- Basic Module (2 ECTS): completion of 2 content blocks
- Advanced Module (3 ECTS): completion of 3 content blocks
- Intensive Module (5 ECTS): completion of all 5 content blocks
You may decide how many ECTS credits you wish to obtain until the examination registration deadline. Your final choice is made only when you register for the exam. Changes remain possible as long as the registration period is open (30 September in the summer semester, 31 March in the winter semester).
