Departmental Library for Biosciences

You will find literature on bioscience in the departmental library. The entire departmental library collection can be searched via the catalogue.

The shelf marks of these items start with "550/".

Against the background of the spread of the coronavirus, the University Library of Würzburg has implemented the specification of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and Art. This measure is intended to protect users and staff and to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. We ask for your understanding for these measures in view of the current exceptional situation.

Services of the departmental library during the Corona Pandemic

Borrowing in the departmental library possible from 22.4.2020 - reservation required
Collection of ordered books: Mon - Thurs from 14:00 - 18:00 and Fri from 10:00 - 18:00

Until further notice, the departmental library must remain closed to the public. However, members of the university, and thus of course students, will be able to borrow books from 22 April onwards!

The desired books must be ordered in advance by mail. They can be picked up the next day (Mon - Fr). If a book is currently not available, you will of course be informed in advance by e-mail. We are also looking into the possibility of making the book available to you in an alternative way - e.g. by purchasing another copy.

When ordering, please indicate your UB user number (it starts with 079... and is printed on your student card or JMU-Card) as well as author and title and, if possible, the shelf mark of the desired books (starting with 550/...).

Books can be collected from Monday to Thursday from 14:00 - 18:00 and Friday from 10:00 - 18:00. The door to the library is open during the times of book distribution. The collection of ordered books takes place directly in the entrance area of the library, on the waist-high coat rack. So you can easily see whether the issue area is currently free or occupied.

In order to speed up the book issue, there are already filled out loan slips in the books. All you have to do is sign the borrowing slips and place them in the box provided. The loan period is 14 days.

There is also a box for returning books on the locker. Please only return books that you have borrowed from the departmental library.

Please send your book orders by mail to the departmental library.
When ordering, please indicate your user number as well as author, title and shelf mark for the books you wish to return.

E-Books first - make suggestions:

Please use our acquisition suggestion form for e-books! In this way a contactless literature supply is possible, we therefore currently prefer this variant and will consider your suggestions favourably.

Further information on the current situation

The departmental library is a reference library, which means that items can usually only be used on site.

More information on further lending conditions can be found in the Guidelines on the use of departmental libraries (PDF, 124 KB). You will find a large collection of study-relevant literature available for loan in the Hubland Main Library.

Study desk

A total of 65 study desks are available.

Group carrel

The departmental library for biosciences has one group carrel for student working groups. This can be reserved by telephone (+49 931 31-84204), e-mail (tb-bio@bibliothek.uni-wuerzburg.de) or in the office.

Access to specialist databases for bioscience literature searches, internet access, Wi-Fi , multifunctional copier

The departmental library for biosciences is located opposite the disabled toilet in the basement of the main wing. The spaces between the library shelves are quite narrow, which makes wheelchair access difficult.

Further information can be found on the webpage of KIS (Kontakt- und Informationsstelle für Studierende mit Behinderung und chronischer Erkrankung).
