Profile of the University Library

The University Library ensures the supply of information for research, teaching and studying at the University of Würzburg. Our services are available for students and staff of the University as well as for pupils, students from other universities and the general public.

As the Regional Library of Lower Franconia we collect Lower Franconian literature. The University Library is financed by the Free State of Bavaria.

Our collection covers 3,4 million items including ca. 8.000 current journals. Half of our stock is shelved in the Central library, whereas the other half can be found in about 70 Departmental Libraries. Those different sites are a result of the eventful history of the University and the Library. Our special collections, e.g. our historical manuscripts and early printed collections, show the cultural and historical importance of the University Library.
