The Department of Manuscripts and Early Printed Collections administrates the valuable old and special holdings of Wuerzburg University Library.
The Collection which has been growing for almost four hundred years experienced its most important increase when manuscripts and prints from the monasteries and other ecclesiastical institutions of the former prince-bishopric of Wuerzburg were incorporated into the University’s holdings in 1803.
Today the collections of this department comprise approximately 2300 manuscripts and 3000 incunabula, some 60.000 prints from the years prior to 1800 as well as papyri, autographs and materials from private archives and estates, original graphic art, historical maps and plans.
