Information for Disabled Persons

Physical access to the library building Am Hubland

The main entrance (south entrance) of the university library is fully handicapped accesible. Planning includes a barrier-free access to the library via basement garage.

The reading rooms are accessible to persons with limited mobility by using the elevator. A disabled toilet is located on the ground floor. Books and periodicals in our reading rooms might be inaccessible, due to the height of shelves, and clearance space between shelves.

Permanent Lockers

Disabled persons, who use the main library intensely, can rent a locker for a limited period. Please contact our loan desk (phone 0931/31-85929, 8.30am – 4.00pm, Fr 8.30am – 12.30pm, ausleihe@bibliothek.uni-wuerzburg.de)

Workstation for blind and visually impaired users

A workstation for blind and visually impaired users is located on the 2nd floor in main reading room 2.

Special loan conditions

Disabled students can apply for special loan conditions:

  • The basic loan period is extended for another loan period, from 30 to 60 opening days. As long as no other library user has placed a reservation fort he item, it can be renewed up to four times.

  • Disabled students are allowed to renew their items via telephone. Please call 0931/31-85929, Mo-Thu 8.30am – 4.00pm, Fr 8.30am – 12.30pm.

  • For DVDs and videos (shelfmarks „17/…“) the basic loan period is extended for 3 days, from 3 to 6 opening days. No renewals

  • All books ordered via interlibrary loan are subject to the loan rules and policies of the lending libraries.

  • Individual agreements for disabled students concerning items on short-term loan are possible. Please call 0931/31-85929, Mo-Thu 8.30am – 4.00pm, Fr 8.30am – 12.30pm.

  • When using the departmental libraries you get the special conditions for students writing their diploma or master thesis respectively their doctoral dissertation or habilitation, including a loan period of 14 days.

  • Staff are willing and able to perform any task to help to overcome the barriers  that exist in the Library for disabled students . Please let us know if there is anything we can help you with.
